Mudkip is a third generation Water-type starter Pokémon species that are small, light blue, amphibious creatures that sport the nickname, "The Mud Fish Pokémon". Using the fin on their heads, they detect recent changes in air and water currents, and can detect nearby bodies of water. When in water, Mudkip breathe using the gills on their cheeks. Mudkip are actually known to be incredibly strong within tight situations, as most them come back from almost being beaten in a Pokémon battle to win the battle. A Mudkip will evolve into a Marshtomp at level 16, and then will go on to evolve into a Swampert at level 36. In the Hoenn region, Mudkip, along with Treecko and Torchic, are usually given out to young Pokémon Trainers by Professor Birch.
